By the end of 2021, more than 280,000 new cases of breast cancer will have been diagnosed in women this year. About 2,650 cases were also anticipated among men.
Breast cancer diagnosis isn’t a death sentence. While about 43,500 deaths were expected in 2021, fatality rates have been steady in women under 50 and have dropped in women over 50 since 2007. These decreases are attributed to advances in treatment and early detection through screening.
The American Cancer Society has been one of the leading organizations in supporting and funding breast cancer research. October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re joining the ACS in the fight by supporting the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in Tempe, Arizona.
Making Strides is the largest network of breast cancer events in the nation. These events are more than a charity walk; they’re an opportunity to help fund groundbreaking cancer research and provide patient services like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near treatment and a live 24/7 cancer helpline.
