Should You Repair or Replace Your Garage Door?
While your garage door is durable, it’s not indestructible.
Eventually, it will stop operating at its best and you’ll need to decide the smartest way to get it back
on track. Should you choose a repair or a replacement? These questions will help guide you toward your answer:
1. Have you had any repairs in the past?
Frequent repairs mean it may be time to part ways!
2. Do you like the look of your garage door?
If not, upgrading your malfunctioning garage door to one that’s more eye-catching will resolve two issues at once!
3. What type of garage door do you currently have?
If you have a high-end, custom wood door, a repair is often the more financially sound choice. However, if you have a contractor-grade steel door and you’re facing a costly repair, a replacement may be the wiser decision.
4. How old is your garage door?
Is your garage door 8 years old or older? If so, the pros of replacing it probably outweigh the cons.
5. What type of repair is required?
If the repair is considered a “temporary fix” that’s unlikely to last very long, consider a replacement.
6. Is the door worth the repair?
Cost plays a major role in your decision. Use the 8-40 rule (see next slide) for guidance.
