Safewise.com has released a report listing the top 20 safest cities for 2017 in Arizona. The data is based on the 2015 FBI Crime Report Statistics. According to the report, the average crime rate among the five most populated cities in the list (Gilbert, Peoria, Surprise, Buckeye and Lake Havasu City) is about 70 percent less than the national average. This means that there are only 1.13 reported violent crimes per 1,000 people in these areas as compared to the national average of 3.83 violent crimes per 1,000 people. Plus, it was found that four out of the twenty safest cities in Arizona did not list murders, rapes or robberies. Meanwhile, Kearny, the second safest city in Arizona had not experienced any violent crime at all.
It is also noteworthy to consider that Arizona’s safest cities experienced relatively few property crimes, with only an average of fewer than sixteen per 1,000 people, half of the state average. Burglaries have also been found to be very low, with half of the cities having fewer than fifty break-ins. Also, nine of the safest cities reported fewer than 10 motor vehicle thefts, while two cities, namely Wellton and Thatcher reported none. Florence is the number 1 safest city in Arizona, although it is technically a town. Located sixty-one miles southest of Phoenix, Florence is the country seat of Pinal county. It is considered as a National Historic District and has a population of 25,536 according to the 2010 census.
Kearny, the second safest city in Arizona is also technically a town. It was built in 1958 as a planned community by the Kennecott Mining Company.

At seventh place is San Luis in Yuma County, Arizona. It is the second fastest growing city or town in Arizona from 1990 to 2000.
Sedona is at eight place. This city of the red sandstone straddles the country line of Coconino and Yavapai.
At ninth place is Somerton, a city in Yuma County. Its economy is based on agriculture, medical services and tourism.
